PANEL 2.1 From Electrical Design Software
I N T R O D U C T I O N
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Electrical Design Software is a New Hampshire based company
that was established in 1992. Our organization's primary objective
is to produce quality software, for the Electrical Industry, at a
reasonable price.
Panel 2.1 requires no special computer knowledge, and is
designed to accommodate both the amateur and professional user.
Context Sensitive Help Screens have been programmed into this
application in order for you the, user, to continue working
quickly and efficiently.
Most importantly, here at Electrical Design Software, YOUR
comments are considered essential, for the development of future
software products. With your input we can design programs that
will accommodate the electrical profession and other specialized
fields.
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs differ
on details -- some request registration while others require it,
some specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you get
anything from the simple right to continue using the software to
an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and Commercial
software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a
few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are
accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors, and the
programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method
of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.
You should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.

DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of Panel 2.1 must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
Panel 2.1 is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties
of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author
assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential, which
may result from the use of Panel 2.1.
Panel 2.1 is a "Shareware Program" and is provided at no
charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with
your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part
of another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is
to provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you are using Panel 2.1 and continue to use
Panel 2.1 after a reasonable trial period, you must make a
registration payment of *$44.00 to Electrical Design Software.
The *$44.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on
any one computer at any one time. You must treat this software
just like a book. An example is that this software may be used
by any number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just
as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time.
Commercial users of Panel 2.1 must register and pay for their
copies of Panel 2.1 within 30 days of first use or their license
is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting
Electrical Design Software.
Anyone distributing Panel 2.1 for any kind of remuneration
must first contact Electrical Design Software at the address listed
for authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted
to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its
guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may
begin offering Panel 2.1 immediately (However Electrical Design
Software must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept
up-to-date with the latest version of Panel 2.1).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of Panel 2.1 along to your
friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users will
receive a copy of the latest version of the Panel 2.1.

PANEL 2.1 From Electrical Design Software
WHAT IS PANEL - VERSION 2.1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Panel 2.1 is a complete database system that will store circuit
directory and panel board information. Custom circuit directories
can be printed or sent to an ASCII file that can be edited with any
word processor. Reports are in a boxed style format or a plain
format, with each report being a customized representation of the
specific panel information.
Panel is primarily designed for producing circuit directories to be
inserted into the cover or display area of a panel or panel board
assembly. Neat and orderly circuit directories lead to efficiency
as well as upgrade the level of professionalism. Other uses for
panel is in the ordering of equipment in which a materials list for
your equipment supplier could be produced. For example a project
that would require different panels, breaker sizes, style and etc
could easily be printed and submitted for pricing.
AVAILABLE SCREEN MODES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Panel will default to 43 line mode, If a screen mode of 43 or
higher is present when panel is starting panel will not set the
screen itself and will set up in the existing mode. However you can
set the monitor to 50 line mode from the command line with the
following command.
* For 50 line mode type PANEL 50 then press ENTER
PRINTER SETUP
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. The easiest way to test the printer is to print a circuit
directory in boxed format. If the report has odd characters the
printer will need to be set. For dot matrix printers Check your
printer manual for setting the printer in epson graphics mode with
the graphics character set. If you have a laser printer you need
to use the symbol set for code page 437.
OTHER PRINTING OPTIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Use of the built in options available with most printers. Many
printers today have a selection of available font style and sizes.
However when selecting a font do not use a font with proportional
spacing, use a font with cpi - characters per inch. Check the
printer manual to set the printer to the font desired, then send
the report to the printer.
2. Using your word processor. Send the report to a file then load
that file into your word processor. If your word processor program
has left and right margins that are less than the with of the
report you should first set your margins wide enough then load the
file. Once loaded into your word processor you can use all the
printing capability of that program to produce a more enhanced
version of the circuit directory.
HOW RECORDS ARE DISPLAYED AND FOUND
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DATA BASE INDEXING
PANEL has 5 Indexing fields.
* Panel Name * Prepared for Name * Prepared for State
* Prepared for City * Prepared for Zip
Records are sorted in an ascending order based on the current
indexing field. The default index when PANEL is started is
the NAME field of the main work screen. To change the index
select the desired index from the Names screen menu.
Four of the five indexes also have multiple sub indexes.
* Prepared for Name > Panel name > City
* Prepared for State > Name > City
* Prepared for City > Name > State
* Prepared for Zip > Name > City
Example: The name index will sort based on the name field
first, then as sub-index it will sort on Panel name
and lastly on state.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
DATA BASE
All records can be saved to disk in a data base file named
PANEL.MDB. The data base will first show records on an
ascending order based on the Name field of the main screen.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
DATABASE PACKING UTILITY
ISAMPACK purges records marked for deletion and recovers disk
space formerly used by deleted records in 32K blocks.
When a record is deleted it is removed from the indexing order.
However the information remains in the data file. Using ISAMPACK
reconstructs the data file with active records only.
REPORTING - PRINT OR FILE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All reports can be sent to
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* Printer ports LPT1, LPT2 or LPT3
* An ASCII file via a user supplied name.
When sending reports to the printer you also have the option
to produce multiple copies from 1 - 10 with the copies field.
When sending a report to file PANEL produces an ASCII file
that you can edit with any word processor. If the default
left and right margins of your word processor are less than
the width of the report it may be necessary to set the
margins to accept the with of the report.
* With replace PANEL will first check if the user supplied
file name already exist. If so a message box will confirm
